Joseph I read with interest your posts and listen to your blogs.
I read in a previous blog about the term 'Unconscious Installation'.
What exactly is it, and where can I find examples (videos, books etc)of this proceess in action?
Is this what Richard Bandler does when he tells all of those stories (Which cannot ALL be true)?
Is he somehow 'installing behaviours' in his listeners?
I've heard that this is what he really does, but is it really true?
...and if so, how on earth does it work?
Keep up the good work Jo and I hope to read a reply from you.

Clara,
Thanks for your persistence ... with me it almost always pays off ...
I did get the the first time you sent it, but if you’ve been following you know it’s been a busy week ... anyhoo, onwards ...
I don’t know who came up with this term, but I’ve heard it used since I first began learning NLP and mostly associated with the way Richard Bandler trains. He uses the terms to describe the effect of being present in his training programs and learning by “osmosis” so to speak. In other words he structures his training using the protocols of hypnosis so that the “installation” of the learning becomes “unconscious.” The participants by virtue of being present when he’s training are have the information installed for them unconsciously. The intention and intended effect is that this learning will emerge effortless, even without their awareness of it, when it’s most appropriate and useful for them. That’s my take on how Richard has presented this idea and strategy.
For some people this really does seem to work, but they are better at describing and explaining this for themselves then I could ever hope to be for them. I have no doubt myself that “unconscious installation” work however because it is the basis of almost all “natural” learning that goes on for everyone. Think for instance of how you learned to speak, the “rules” of language were never overtly “taught” to you, but nonetheless you learned them “unconsciously.” My daughter has a phrase I love that I hope sticks around for at least a bit longer as it tickles me so ... “I willn’t do that.” ... of course she means “will not” and we would say “won’t” as speakers of “correct” English and knowing the “proper” form of the contraction, but she’s got the rules right, hasn’t she ... so I’ve decided in this case I willn’t ever correct this language pattern of hers.
I also know it works because I use it virtually every time I present myself. I develop the presentation and then use the protocols of hypnosis to “embed” the points I want to make in the presentation outside of what I focusing my audience’s conscious attention on at the time. This is the trick of every magician and it is called misdirection ... “Look here!” ... while what’s really going on is over there. The reason I will do this is so that the audience with whom I have an agreement can begin to incorporate information that is outside the framework of their current belief set. This opens the possibility of accelerating the incorporation of this information many times over.
I don’t know of a specific place where you’ll find this referenced outside of Richard Bandler’s video tapes, but I’d send a note to John LaValle, Richard’s co-trainer and ask him for more specific resources. Let him know I recommended you to him and I’m sure he’ll do what he can for you. You can reach John at: jlavalle@purenlp.com
Best regards,
Joseph
Thankyou Joseph for answering my question. It makes sense.
Please would you take the time to answer two subsequent questions that I have come to want known following your answer.
1) Are Bandler's stories really true? (and if they are not, what is the value in recounting fictitious annecdotes?)
2) You mentioned before that you didn't believe in the "unconscious". So what is it about this term that you do not believe in and what do you believe instead of this.
I really would appreciate your answers to these questions Joseph...I'm counting on you to help put some missing pieces (im ny mind) together.
With Warm Regards.
I await your kind response.
